The Upper Cervical (UC) focuses on the integrity and function of the first bones that protect the Brain, Brainstem, and Spinal Cord. This is Composed of the Occiput (part of your skull), C1 vertebrae (Atlas), and C2 vertebrae (Axis). Together, all three compose 80% of your movement in the neck. What makes them unique is their shape, size and anatomy. C1 does NOT have an intervertebral disc in between like the rest of the spinal cord, which makes this vertebra very mobile. The upside is that it moves your neck and creates fluid joint motion. The downside is that it can get “stuck” in place due to trauma or injuries. This is important, considering that your Jugular Vein, Carotid and Vertebral Artery, and Vagus Nerve are paired with it. This can create many chronic dysfunctions.

Functional rehab chiropractic (FRC) sees the body as a whole for each complaint, many muscles, tendons and ligament cross sections in the spine and sometimes all the way from the pelvis to your neck and also your extremities. Many common pain and aches come from weak muscles and compensation from other areas. This can create a biomechanical cascade of muscle dysfunction that can affect the body as a whole. FRC uses movements assessments to verify where  the root of the cause of the pain is located and not just treat the symptoms.
